A big, empty new home. Now what?

When moving into a new-build home, the “blank canvas” factor can be intimidating. But these homeowners had a distinct look they were after and asked us to help them realize it for their interior spaces. We turned to a mix of lived-in contemporary and Scandinavian design to give the space a warmth and playfulness that matched the personality and needs of the young family. Clean white walls and oak floors created a timeless neutral backdrop for pops of texture and statement colour. The large open space of the ground floor became cozier with built-in seating and custom millwork to fit the family’s busy life rhythms. A spa-like principal ensuite provided calm for the parents, and the children’s bathrooms were designed to suit their needs now, and for the next stage of life. Light fixtures, tile finishes and art pieces worked together to add personality and warmth, making what started as a big empty house into a home for years to come.
